Deflate Your Egos or Risk Missing the Polls — Ikechukwu Warns PDP

A Professor of Strategic Management and Human Capital Development, Okey Ikechukwu, has urged members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to put aside personal interests and internal rivalries if they hope to remain competitive in the next general elections.

Ikechukwu gave the advice on Tuesday during a live interview on Arise Television, while reacting to the ongoing internal crisis within the opposition party and the recent Court of Appeal decision that dismissed the faction led by Taminu Turaki.

According to him, prolonged legal battles could further weaken the party’s chances of participating effectively in the elections.

“PDP members need to deflate their egos if they want to participate in the next elections,” he said.

He warned that taking the dispute to the Supreme Court might not deliver a quick resolution, even if an accelerated hearing is granted.

“If they head to the Supreme Court, even with an accelerated hearing, we can’t tell when the case will end,” Ikechukwu stated.

The professor stressed that the party does not have the luxury of time for internal political struggles if it intends to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

He supported the reconciliation call earlier made by former Senate President Bukola Saraki, urging PDP leaders to prioritize unity and strategic planning.

According to Ikechukwu, the party must urgently address three key issues: whether it genuinely wants to contest the elections as a formidable opposition, how it intends to present credible candidates and campaigns, and how it plans to mobilize supporters.

He emphasized that effective mobilization would require a strong focus on voter engagement, including the use of e-registration to expand participation.

The PDP has been grappling with internal divisions in recent months, a development many analysts believe could weaken its ability to challenge the ruling party in upcoming elections if not resolved quickly.
