Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has engaged in a heated exchange with former presidential media aide, Bashir Ahmad, over the forthcoming Osun State governorship election.
The clash began on Thursday after Davido took to X to celebrate a telephone conversation between President Bola Tinubu and Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke.
Davido, who said he was present during the conversation, described the moment as one in which he had “witnessed history.”
Reacting to the singer’s post, Bashir said he had bookmarked it, predicting that Davido would return to the platform to complain if the August 15 governorship election did not produce the outcome he expected.
“This tweet is bookmarked. It will serve as a reference for future events. I know you will come back here to lament if the August 15 results don’t go your way,” Bashir wrote.
Davido, however, hit back by mocking Bashir over his performance in the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election.
“You got 16 votes, bro, in the primaries. STFU,” the singer replied.
In a subsequent post, Davido criticised Bashir’s political record, questioning his achievements during his eight years in the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
“You measure success by one award. I measure it by sold-out arenas, billions of streams, global influence, and people singing my songs across continents,” Davido wrote.
He further accused the former presidential aide of failing to make a meaningful impact in his community despite his time in government.
“You had government backing and still couldn’t convince enough people to back you in your small constituency. You’re a small boy who came into politics by accident,” he added.
Davido also said the pair had different measures of success, insisting that he would continue to inspire younger generations.
“We all have different trophies, Bashir. I’ll keep inspiring the young ones and generations to come while you wait for the next government job to get crumbs,” he stated.
