Nigeria’s fast-evolving downstream sector recorded a major shift in October 2025, with the Dangote Refinery supplying 34.15 percent of the country’s petrol needs for the month. This is according to the 2025 State of the Midstream and Downstream Fact Sheet released by the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) over the weekend.

The data shows that Nigeria consumed 56.7 million litres of petrol per day in October, a sharp 31.86 percent rise from the 43 million litres recorded in September. Of this volume, the 650,000 barrels-per-day Dangote Refinery supplied 17.1 million litres daily, while imported petrol accounted for 27.6 million litres.

Between October 2024 and October 2025, Nigeria’s average monthly petrol consumption stood at 661.5 million litres, with Dangote Refinery contributing an average of 18.03 million litres per day within the same period.

The fact sheet also highlighted consumption trends for other refined products in October: diesel averaged 17.13 million litres daily, while aviation fuel stood at 2.61 million litres.

According to the NMDPRA, the verified figures reflect Nigeria’s ongoing transition toward stronger domestic refining capacity, reduced reliance on imports, improved safety compliance, job creation, and enhanced economic stability.

In a related development, the Dangote Refinery announced in November that it supplied 45 million litres of petrol to the Nigerian market, further signalling an upward trajectory in its production and distribution capacity.
