Dangote Refinery Halts Self-Collection Fuel Sales Amid Face-Off With Marketers, NUPENG

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has announced the suspension of all self-collection gantry sales of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), effective Thursday, September 18, 2025.

In an email sent to customers and obtained by DAILY POST on Friday, the 650,000-barrel-per-day refinery directed that all payments related to active Proforma Invoices (PFIs) for self-collection be placed on hold until further notice.

“We wish to inform you that, effective 18th September 2025, Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals FZE (DPRP) has placed all self-collection gantry sales on hold until further notice. In light of this development, we kindly request that all payments related to active PFIs for self-collections are also placed on hold until further notice. Please note that any payment made after this date will not be honoured,” the email read in part.

The move comes on the heels of the refinery’s clash with the Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria (DAPPMAN) and the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG).

Just last week, the refinery pegged its gantry price at ₦820 per litre as it rolled out its fuel distribution plan nationwide — a move that sparked resistance from stakeholders, who accused Dangote of attempting to monopolize the downstream sector.

Dangote Refinery, however, fired back, accusing DAPPMAN of demanding a ₦1.5 trillion subsidy — a claim the association strongly refuted, insisting instead that the oil giant has been favouring foreign offtakers while sidelining Nigerian marketers.

The suspension marks another twist in the refinery’s turbulent entry into Nigeria’s fuel supply chain, as industry tensions deepen ahead of the 2027 general elections.
