Woman sets policewoman, her 2 children ablaze in Anambra

A middle-aged woman has been detained for reportedly setting a policewoman and her two children on fire in Nnokwa, Anambra State’s Idemili South Local Government Area.

The suspect, known as Nneamaka Nwosu, a native of Amawbia in the state’s Awka South Local Government Area, was claimed to have met the dead when she became homeless following a divorce.

According to a local resident who requested anonymity, the suspect, Nwosu, moved in with the policewoman shortly after she became homeless and in desperate need of shelter when her husband kicked her out of their home.

“As soon as her husband divorced her, she confided in the policewoman, who kindly offered her lodging in her apartment.” On that fateful day, she got into an argument with the policewoman, which escalated into a brawl. She smacked the officer in the head with a pestle, causing her to fall and go unconscious.

“She quickly tied the policewoman and her two kids together with a rope inside their room and set them ablaze alongside the building,” he claimed.

The suspect was arrested by local vigilantes and some villagers who were drawn to the fire as she was attempting to flee.

When the vigilantes confronted her, she initially denied the crime, stating that it was caused by a gas explosion while the dead and her children were boiling water. Nwosu later admitted to the crime, attributing it to the devil’s works.

“I don’t know what possessed me to commit the crime.” “I deserve to be killed for this heinous crime against the person who helped me in my hour of need,” she added.

The Anambra State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the occurrence and said the suspect had been detained and the bodies of the policewoman and her children had been deposited at the mortuary. According to Ikenga, the case has been turned over to the CID for further investigation and prosecution.

“Preliminary information indicates that the policewoman accommodated the suspect while she was looking for a house,” he said. “The two women got into a fight when they disagreed, and the suspect whacked the policewoman on the head with a pestle. She chained her to her two children and burned them on fire while she was unconscious. The victims’ bodies have been retrieved and deposited at the mortuary.”

“Further developments shall be communicated,” Ikenga vowed.
