Man Batters 6-Year-Old Daughter With Machete

A group known as the Save and Secure the Child Initiative, the Campaign against Child Abuse in Nigeria, rescued a six-year-old girl, Chiagozie Nwobodo, from the hands of her father, who confessed to flogging her with a machete and inflicting her with heavy wounds as a result of the machete cuts, resulting in multiple sores all over the girl’s body, as well as a broken leg.

Hyginus Nwabodo, 44, a native of Ezinifite in Anambra State’s Nnewi South Local Government Area, confessed to the horrible crime after being given up to the police by the Ezinifite Vigilante Group.

He claimed that he had committed such heinous acts on her daughter due to her destructive temperament. He also accused his six-year-old daughter of destroying his doors and walls with machetes and metals. The daughter, on the other hand, rejected all of the claims, while the father blamed the devil for his horrible behaviour against her.

Speaking on the incident, Rotarian Kingsley Obi, the Anambra State Principal of the Save and Secure the Child program, said the case denounced it in its whole and that the suspect would be charged to the Anambra State Government’s Juvenile Court.

He stated that in the three years since the inception of the “Save and Secure the Child initiative,” they had never heard of such maltreatment and wickedness meted out to a daughter by her biological father. He called the deed “both the depth and apogee of a father’s wickedness to his daughter.”

Rotarian Obi also warned the public to avoid actions that could threaten the lives of their children, emphasizing that no sort of child misbehaviour should result in such abuse and maltreatment of the child.

When contacted by this reporter, Izunna Okafor, the State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Mrs Ify Obinabo, frowned on any form of child abuse and molestation, warning that the state government is still committed to apprehending and prosecuting anyone found wanting and guilty of such behaviour.

“The fact that you are a parent does not give you the right to mistreat your child in any way. We’re not saying that parents shouldn’t warn their children when they do something wrong, but it should be done moderately and carefully,” she said.
