Court Clears Path for PDP National Convention in Ibadan

The Oyo State High Court sitting in Ibadan has granted the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) permission to go ahead with its Elective National Convention slated for November 15 and 16, 2025, at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba.

Delivering judgment on Monday, Justice A. L. Akintola ruled in favour of the party in Suit No. I/1336/2025, filed by Folahan Malamo Adelabi, an aspirant for the position of Deputy National Organising Secretary.

The court restrained the PDP, its agents, and officers from obstructing or altering the party’s approved guidelines, timetable, and schedule for the convention, affirming the process as valid and lawful.

In a move to ensure transparency, Justice Akintola ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to deploy monitors and observers to oversee the exercise in line with Nigeria’s electoral regulations.

The court further directed the Chairman of the National Convention Organising Committee (NCOC), Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State, to continue preparations without interference.

With the ruling, all legal obstacles that had earlier threatened the conduct of the PDP’s convention have now been cleared, paving the way for final arrangements involving more than 3,000 delegates—including governors, National Assembly members, statutory delegates, and key stakeholders—from across the country and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The PDP’s forthcoming convention is expected to shape the party’s leadership direction ahead of the 2027 general elections.
