The immediate past President of the Nigerian Association of Liquefied Petroleum Gas Marketers (NALPGAM), Olatunbosun Oladapo, has said the price of cooking gas is likely to fall even further in the coming days as supply across the country stabilises.
Speaking in an interview with DAILY POST on Monday, Oladapo noted that the recent decline in the price of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) was a positive sign for households already grappling with high living costs.
This follows reports that LPG prices have dropped nationwide after weeks of supply disruptions. In Abuja, retailers now sell the product at around ₦1,500 per kilogramme — down from about ₦2,000 only weeks ago.
Major suppliers such as NIPCO, AA Rano, Ranoil, and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) are currently dispensing LPG between ₦1,090 and ₦1,100 per litre, compared to ₦1,200 previously.
Oladapo expressed optimism that the trend will continue, especially as the festive season approaches.
“We still want the price of gas to come down further,” he said. “The festive season is approaching, and the most important thing is ensuring the product’s availability. Let’s see how the price goes in one or two weeks.”
The expected price drop is attributed to improved distribution and a steady increase in supply following earlier logistic bottlenecks.
Industry observers say the development could bring relief to millions of Nigerian households relying on cooking gas for domestic use ahead of the December festivities.
