Lagos Boat mishaps: PDP asks Sanwo-Olu to sack LASWA boss

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has asked the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu to sack the management of Lagos State Waterways Authority, LASWA, over the recent boat mishaps which occurred in the state.

The PDP spokesperson in Lagos State, Taofik Gani, in a statement on Sunday, also requested that the governor declares Lagos waterways unsafe for public transportation.

According to the PDP, facts now reveal that over 50 lives have actually been lost in the last 30 days and in the last 10 days, there has been 17 victims of the boat mishaps.

The PDP while condoning families of the victims of the boat mishaps demanded adequate compensation from the state government for the families.

The PDP also said, “We demand the sack of the LASWA general manager, the overhaul of the agency, compensation for victims, prosecution of erring officials, and operators. Due to the increase in deaths on the Lagos waterways, a responsible government ought to have overhauled the management of the LASWA “.
