On Monday, the impeachment notice against Governor Siminalaye Fubara was purportedly signed by the state assembly, adding to the chaos already plaguing the Rivers State government.
In a meeting that was chaired by Speaker Rt Hon. Martins Amaewhule and attended by a few members, the governor’s supporters were suspended, and the Leader of the House, Hon. Edison Ehie, was dismissed.
According to sources, the explosion that took place on Sunday night at the Assembly was allegedly a ruse to prevent the MPs from entering the building on Monday.
However, some MPs entered the House as early as 7 a.m. and signed the governor’s impeachment notification during the plenary session that followed.
In the meantime, armed police officers have blocked the entire Moscow Road that leads to the Rivers State House of Assembly.
In a widely shared video, the governor could be seen, accompanied by a few of his supporters, making their way to the Assembly complex while being pepper-sprayed by police.
