Reports have it that several artisans were seen dismantling the roof of the Edo State House of Assembly complex as of 3 pm on Thursday.

According to the reports, the men were seen removing the legislative mace on top of the building and trucks lined up offloading gravels at the entrance of the Assembly complex.

Earlier, Nelsdaily.com had reported that men of the Nigeria Police Force allegedly sent by APC were seen on Thursday surrounding the Assembly complex in Benin City, the state capital, which the APC has denied.

This incident is happening barely 24 hours after the Deputy Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Yekini Idiaye, was impeached.

It was gathered that the police action earlier in the day, was in a bid to prevent an attack on the complex though the suspected vandals still found their way into the building.

Also, on Thursday morning, there was great tension in the Assembly due to the heavy presence of security agents and it was learnt that shortly after, outgoing Governor, Godwin Obaseki ordered the heaping of sand at the front of the Edo State House of Assembly complex.
