BREAKING: Niger Breaks Diplomatic Ties With Nigeria As Peace Talk Hits The Rock

0

The military junta in the Niger Republic severed ties with Nigeria after the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) failed to resolve the current impasse.

To prevent a fight with the junta, ECOWAS set a seven-day ultimatum for President Mohamed Bazoum’s reinstatement.

On Thursday, however, President Bola Tinubu dispatched a high-level delegation to the country to speak with the coup leaders. The mission, led by General Abdulsalami Abubakar (rtd), solely met with junta representatives.

As a result, Niger ceased connections with Nigeria, Togo, its colonizer, France, and the United States.

“The functions of the extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassadors of the Republic of Niger” to France, Nigeria, Togo, and the United States have been terminated,” one of the putschists announced on national television, according to Radio France International.
