According to Defence Headquarters (DHQ), troops have neutralized 50 terrorists and detained 114 others in separate operations across the northern region in less than a week.

While speaking to journalists in Abuja on Thursday, the Director of Defence Media Operations, Edward Buba, claimed the military also recovered 49 kidnapped prisoners.

Buba stated that forces from Operation Hadin Kai in the north-east carried out an offensive on Boko Haram and Islamic States of West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists, resulting in the surrender of some of their fighters in Borno and Yobe states.

He went on to say that the troops also found 17 AK-47 weapons, one AK-47 rifle equipped with 21 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, one hand grenade, 137 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, and four mobile phones.

According to him, the army also killed 12 terrorists and apprehended 26 others. He also further stated that the army’s air component performed air interdiction near the Damboa-Maiduguri and Gwoza-Madagali sectors, where some terrorists were seen and neutralized with rockets.

“In the north-central, troops from Operation Safe Haven apprehended suspected kidnappers in Kanam and Sanga LGAs of Plateau and Kaduna states,” he said. “One AK-47 rifle, four handguns, a Dane gun, 15 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, and two mobile phones were found, while two terrorists were killed.”

A spokeswoman for the Defense Department noted that 12 terrorists had been captured and three kidnapped hostages had been rescued.

According to Buba, troops from Operation Whirl Stroke conducted searches and apprehended suspected terrorists in Takum LGA of Benue and the federal capital area.

He stated that during the week under review, the army detained 26 suspected criminals and illegal oil bunkers in the FCT municipal councils of Gwagwalada and Abuja.

According to him, troops from Operation Hadarin Daji conducted battle patrols and neutralized terrorists in Katsina, Kaduna, and Zamfara states in the northwest.

The Defence Spokesperson went on to say that nine terrorists had been neutralized, 12 had been apprehended, and 25 kidnap victims had been rescued. Also, the culprits were found with 10 AK-47 weapons, one locally built pistol, 155 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, one magazine, and one vehicle, according to Buba.
