Atiku Raises Alarm Over Alleged Leak of Private Bank Details After Unauthorised Campaign Donation

Former Vice President and 2027 presidential hopeful, Atiku Abubakar, has raised concerns over an alleged breach of his private banking information after an unidentified individual reportedly transferred money into one of his personal accounts.

Atiku’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday.

According to the statement, the transaction was made into Atiku’s private account with a leading commercial bank in Nigeria and carried the narration, “Contribution Electioneering Campaign.”

Atiku, however, said neither he nor members of his campaign team solicited, authorised or had prior knowledge of the payment.

The former Peoples Democratic Party presidential candidate described the development as disturbing, particularly because the affected account is strictly private and its details are not publicly available.

He questioned how an unidentified individual was able to obtain the confidential banking information, warning that the incident raises serious concerns about the security of Nigerians’ financial data.

“If the private banking information of a former Vice President and a leading presidential candidate can be accessed and deployed for reasons yet unknown, then no Nigerian’s financial privacy is safe,” the statement said.

Atiku further alleged that the disclosure of his banking details may have involved individuals with privileged access to sensitive information.

He warned that the exposure of such information could potentially put account holders at risk from kidnappers, terrorists, bandits, fraudsters and other criminal elements.

The African Democratic Congress chieftain said the incident was part of what he described as a series of suspicious activities ahead of the 2027 general elections and urged relevant security agencies to take note and investigate the matter.

Atiku also dismissed what he described as attempts to damage his reputation, maintaining that he remains focused on providing credible leadership and practical solutions to Nigeria’s challenges.
