The Kogi State Government, under the visionary leadership of His Excellency Alh. Ahmed Usman Ododo, is spearheading a groundbreaking agricultural initiative designed to elevate the State to the pinnacle of food production in Nigeria. In line with Governor Ododo’s campaign promise to transform Kogi into the nation’s food basket, the government is unlocking thousands of hectares of land for large-scale crop production this season.
Central to this ambitious plan is the State Government’s partnership with the Transition Chairmen of Kogi’s 21 Local Government Areas, who are making substantial investments in land preparation. Recognizing the financial burden that land preparation can impose on rural farmers, the administration has undertaken to cover these costs, thereby enabling farmers to fully leverage the State’s agricultural potential.
To ensure a successful agricultural season, the State Government has procured and distributed over 100 tractors across all 21 Local Government Areas. This mechanization effort is complemented by the provision of improved seedlings and agrochemicals, alongside comprehensive training for extension workers by the State Ministry of Agriculture. These initiatives aim to enhance the productivity and profitability of Kogi’s farmers.
In a bid to support the financial stability and creditworthiness of farmers, and to enhance value chain development, the government is silently advancing processes across the 239 Wards of the State. Collaborative efforts with the All Farmers Association of Nigeria are ensuring that only genuine farmers benefit from these initiatives, thereby preventing exploitation by ‘political farmers’.
Furthermore, the State Government is actively attracting major investors to Kogi to bolster agricultural processing capabilities, heralding a new era of agricultural industrialization.
These monumental achievements have been realized within Governor Ododo’s first 100 days in office, showcasing a dynamic and effective leadership dedicated to agricultural excellence.
Kogi State is poised for an unprecedented agricultural revolution under the Consolidation and Continuity Administration of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo. The future of agriculture in Kogi is bright, and the State is set to make significant contributions to Nigeria’s food security.
