The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has criticised the presidential running mate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, over remarks perceived as comparing himself to some of Northern Nigeria’s most revered political figures.
Speaking during an interview on Arise Television, the National Publicity Secretary of the ACF, Tukur Mohammed-Baba, said Kwankwaso’s comments portraying himself as a political alternative and “new Messiah” for the North were inappropriate and out of touch with reality.
Mohammed-Baba argued that Kwankwaso could not place himself in the same category as the late Premier of Northern Nigeria, Sir Ahmadu Bello, the Sardauna of Sokoto, or the renowned nationalist and political activist, Aminu Kano.
According to him, both Ahmadu Bello and Aminu Kano played historic roles within the context of their time and left legacies that remain unmatched in Northern Nigeria.
“He has been saying the wrong things, talking about the Sardauna and Aminu Kano, saying he is the new Messiah. I think that in the North, that is very irreverent because you can’t compare yourself to those people. They operated in the context of their time,” Mohammed-Baba said.
The ACF spokesman further described any attempt by Kwankwaso to present himself as a direct alternative to such iconic figures as “highly delusional.”
“It will be highly delusional of him to go that far and say he presents an alternative,” he added.
Mohammed-Baba maintained that many Northerners would view such claims as unrealistic, insisting that the former Kano State governor remains far from attaining the stature and influence of the late Northern leaders he referenced.
