ABUJA — Minister of Defence, Gen. Christopher Gwabin Musa (rtd), has pledged his commitment to the All Progressives Congress ahead of the 2027 general elections following his appointment as Secretary I of the party’s Presidential Campaign Council.
In a statement issued on Monday by his Special Adviser on Media, Leah Katung-Babatunde, Musa expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu and the APC leadership for the confidence reposed in him.
He described the appointment as “a call to higher service,” and assured party stakeholders and supporters of his dedication to the responsibilities of the role.
‘Security Remains Our Highest Imperative’
Despite the new political assignment, Musa stressed that his constitutional duty as Minister of Defence remains his primary focus.
“National security remains our highest imperative,” he said.
“The ongoing operations, strategic reforms, and inter-agency collaborations across the defence sector will continue unabated with increased vigour.
“Our resolve to uphold the mandate of the Ministry of Defence, protect our people, and drive Mr. President’s vision for a safe and prosperous Nigeria remains firm and unshakeable,” the minister stated.
Call for Unity Ahead of 2027
Musa also urged APC members and Nigerians to remain united behind the administration, expressing confidence that the party would secure victory at the polls while continuing to deliver on governance and security.
The appointment of the Defence Minister to a key position in the APC campaign council signals the party’s push to integrate top government officials into its 2027 election strategy.
The 2027 presidential election is expected to be a major contest as Tinubu seeks a second term in office.
