Former Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, suffered a political setback at his polling unit in Ilesa on Saturday as the All Progressives Congress (APC) recorded a landslide victory in the ongoing governorship election.
The APC governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, polled 256 votes at the polling unit, defeating the Accord Party candidate and incumbent Governor, Ademola Adeleke, who secured 43 votes.
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Najeem Salaam, finished a distant third with 13 votes.
The result is significant given Aregbesola’s political influence as a former governor of Osun State and a prominent figure in Ijesaland.
The APC won by a margin of 213 votes, with Oyebamiji’s tally exceeding the combined votes recorded by Accord and ADC at the polling unit.
Earlier in the day, Aregbesola arrived at the polling location to cast his ballot, attracting the attention of voters, party supporters and political observers as voting commenced.
The outcome at the polling unit adds an interesting dimension to the closely watched Osun governorship election.
