The Federal Government, through the National Sports Commission (NSC) and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), on Tuesday officially presented the promised rewards to members of Nigeria’s Super Falcons for winning the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The presentation took place in Rabat, Morocco, just hours before the defending champions opened their 2026 WAFCON campaign against Malawi.
Confirming the development in a post on its official X account, the NFF said NSC Chairman Shehu Dikko and NFF General Secretary Mohammed Sanusi presented the rewards on behalf of the Federal Government.
Each player received the keys to a three-bedroom apartment under the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Housing Estate, while the promised cash reward of $100,000 had already been paid into their individual bank accounts. Members of the team’s technical crew are also beneficiaries of the reward package.
President Bola Tinubu had announced the incentives shortly after the Super Falcons clinched the 2025 WAFCON title, alongside the conferment of national honours on the players and officials.
Although the cash rewards were disbursed after the completion of administrative procedures, the presentation of the houses was delayed for about a year to allow all members of the team to receive their keys together.
Speaking ahead of the presentation, NSC Chairman Shehu Dikko explained that the ceremony was intentionally scheduled to coincide with the team’s assembly in Morocco for the 2026 WAFCON.
“We decided to delay the presentation of the keys because we wanted a situation whereby the players would be together. I am sure it will boost their morale ahead of the 2026 WAFCON,” Dikko said, confirming that the players had already received the promised $100,000 each.
Nigeria begin the 2026 WAFCON as defending champions and record 10-time winners. The Super Falcons will face Malawi, Zambia and Egypt in Group C as they pursue a record-extending 11th continental title.
The tournament, running from July 26 to August 16 in Morocco, also serves as Africa’s qualifying competition for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil. The four semi-finalists will secure automatic qualification, while one additional team will advance through the intercontinental play-offs.
