Spain youngsters Lamine Yamal and Pau Cubarsi etched their names into football history after helping La Roja win the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Sunday.
The teenage duo featured as Spain defeated Argentina 1-0 after extra time in the final at MetLife Stadium, New Jersey, with Ferran Torres scoring the decisive goal to secure the world title.
According to football statistics platform Opta, Yamal and Cubarsi, both 19, became only the fourth and fifth teenagers to start a FIFA World Cup final and go on to lift the trophy.
The exclusive list is led by Brazilian legend Pele, who achieved the feat in 1958 at the age of 17 years and 249 days. He is followed by Italy’s Giuseppe Bergomi, who won the World Cup in 1982 at 18 years and 201 days, and France superstar Kylian Mbappe, who accomplished the milestone in 2018 at 19 years and 207 days.
With their achievement, Yamal and Cubarsi join an elite group of teenage footballers who have started and won a FIFA World Cup final.
