The planned burial of 26-year-old physiotherapist Mary Habila, whose death at the Ebonyi residence of the Minister of Works, David Umahi, has sparked widespread public concern, has intensified calls for an independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding her passing.
Habila, popularly known as Mara and reportedly a personal physiotherapist to the minister, was said to have died on June 27, 2026, at Umahi’s residence in Uburu, Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
Her death generated nationwide attention following reports that her body was discovered unclothed inside the minister’s residence, prompting many Nigerians to demand a thorough autopsy and transparent investigation.
Despite the ongoing police inquiry, Habila’s family has announced that she will be buried on Friday, July 17, 2026, a decision that has further fueled public debate over whether all necessary forensic procedures have been completed.
Across social media, many Nigerians have continued to call on the authorities to ensure that the investigation is conducted independently and transparently.
Some users on X also referenced previous allegations involving the minister and questioned the integrity of the investigative process. However, these claims remain unverified, and no evidence has been publicly presented to substantiate them.
As of the time of filing this report, the Nigeria Police Force has not released the outcome of its investigation, while the Minister of Works has not been found liable for any wrongdoing in connection with Habila’s death.
The case continues to attract significant public attention, with many Nigerians urging investigators to establish the facts surrounding the incident and ensure that justice is served based on the findings of a credible investigation.
