‘Payment Is No Longer the Problem’ — Wike Credits Tinubu, National Assembly for Abuja’s Infrastructure Boom

ABUJA, Nigeria — Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has attributed the rapid execution of infrastructure projects across Abuja to the unwavering support of President Bola Tinubu and the timely approval of the FCT Administration’s budget by the National Assembly.

Speaking on Friday during the commissioning of access roads to the Renewed Hope Cities and Estates in Karsana District, Wike said the administration’s achievements would not have been possible without the President’s backing and improved funding.

The event formed part of activities marking President Tinubu’s third anniversary in office. The President was represented at the ceremony by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

Reflecting on the transformation of the Karsana District, Wike recalled that when President Tinubu laid the foundation for the Renewed Hope City project in 2024, the area had no access roads.

“I said here when Mr. President came in 2024 to lay the foundation of the Renewed Hope City that I wondered how anyone would want to live in this area because there was no road at all. It wasn’t a case of bad roads; there were simply no roads,” Wike said.

According to him, concerns raised by developers about the lack of infrastructure prompted the FCT Administration to award the road construction contract to Lubricks in February 2025.

He noted that the completed project has completely changed the landscape of the district.

“It is a different story today. We have transformed this area, and you can see how beautiful it has become. Mr. President, this is your handwork. It is your support for the FCT Administration, alongside the support of the National Assembly, that made this possible,” he said.

Wike also commended the National Assembly for ensuring the FCT budget was passed promptly, saying the swift approval enabled the administration to execute projects without unnecessary delays.

The minister further praised the contractor for delivering the project on schedule, adding that improved funding had eliminated previous challenges associated with project execution.

“I thank God today that payment is no longer the problem, and completing the work is no longer the problem. Both parties have fulfilled their obligations,” Wike stated.
