President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to accelerating infrastructure development across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and the rest of the country, declaring that his government “will not slow down” until every Nigerian feels the dividends of democracy.
Speaking on Thursday during the commissioning of the rehabilitated Old Keffi Road, stretching from Kado Fish Market to Deidei Junction, the President, represented by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, said the project reflects his administration’s determination to improve connectivity, boost economic activities, and enhance the quality of life for residents.
Tinubu described the newly commissioned road as more than just a transportation route, calling it “an economic artery” that links Kado, Saburi, Gwagwa, Idu, Karmo, and Deidei directly to the Outer Northern Expressway.
According to him, the road will significantly reduce travel time and transportation costs while improving the movement of goods and services, creating a more vibrant commercial environment.
“We have cut travel time, reduced costs for residents, and made it easier for goods to move. Markets will thrive, workers will reach their destinations with less stress, and prosperity will increase across these communities,” he said.
The President also commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for the “Light Up Abuja” initiative, describing it as a clear example of the dividends of democracy.
He noted that the installation of streetlights along the corridor would improve security, encourage nighttime economic activities, and make movement safer for residents.
Tinubu urged community leaders and residents to protect the infrastructure by preventing vandalism, keeping drainage channels free of refuse, and promptly reporting any damage for repairs.
“A road maintained by its community lasts for generations, while one that is neglected deteriorates quickly. The choice is ours,” he said.
Reiterating his administration’s commitment to inclusive development, Tinubu stressed that infrastructure projects would continue across the FCT, from the city centre to the area councils.
“We are building for inclusion, safety, and growth. Every district deserves access, and every citizen deserves to feel the impact of this administration wherever they live,” he said.
The President concluded by calling on Nigerians to partner with the government in building a more prosperous nation, before officially commissioning the rehabilitated Old Keffi Road for commerce, mobility, security, and the continued development of the FCT and Nigeria as a whole.
