‘It’s My Turn to Govern Imo’ — Samuel Anyanwu Declares 2027 Ambition, Says PDP Ready to Reclaim State

Samuel Anyanwu, the National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has declared that it is now his turn to govern Imo State, saying the opportunity should come to him after former governors Ikedi Ohakim, Emeka Ihedioha, and the incumbent, Hope Uzodimma.

Anyanwu made the declaration in Owerri during the inauguration of the Polling Unit Movement for Sam Daddy, a grassroots political group established to support his governorship ambition ahead of the 2027 election.

Popularly known by his political nickname, Sam Daddy, Anyanwu noted that he and the three other politicians all emerged from what he described as the “old PDP in Imo State,” arguing that fairness demands he be given the chance to lead the state.

“We were four strong PDP members—myself, Hope Uzodimma, Ikedi Ohakim, and Emeka Ihedioha. As God would have it, all three of them have governed Imo State, while I have remained myself. I have come to take my turn, and I believe the other contestants will make space for me,” he said.

Acknowledging the competitive nature of politics, Anyanwu said he remains focused on achieving his political ambition.

“It’s true that power isn’t given; it’s taken. I’ll stay focused on the ball,” he stated.

The PDP National Secretary also expressed confidence in his party’s chances of returning to power in Imo, insisting that the PDP is becoming stronger and attracting more supporters across the state.

“Fortunately, the PDP is becoming stronger and more united today. Our numbers are growing by thousands. I’m saying this clearly and honestly: the PDP remains the only party our people truly trust, and we will not let the people of Imo down,” he said.

He urged members of the newly inaugurated support group to intensify grassroots mobilization, particularly in rural communities, to strengthen the party’s support base ahead of the election.

Anyanwu also vowed that the PDP would resist electoral malpractice by deploying party agents to monitor polling units and safeguard votes throughout the electoral process.

“Listen to me, there’s nothing they know that we do not know. There’s nothing they possess that we don’t already have. Whatever strategy they intend to use, we’re prepared for it. Their tricks won’t work this time.

“We have stationed our people across polling units to monitor the voting process and protect the ballots until the results are announced.

“We also have several other support structures for Sam Daddy, including the Divine Mandate and the Mass Movement for Sam Daddy. I urge everyone to work together to ensure that the people of Imo embrace this movement.”
