Nigeria’s ambassador-designate to Mexico, Reno Omokri, has revealed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu nominated him to serve concurrently as Nigeria’s envoy to four countries across Central and South America, a role he said involves a more complex diplomatic process than most ambassadorial appointments.
Omokri made the disclosure in a post on his Facebook page while responding to public discussions surrounding the Federal Government’s recently announced diplomatic appointments.
According to the former presidential aide, his appointment differs from those of other ambassadorial nominees because it requires the approval of four separate foreign governments, each headed by a different president, before the posting can be finalised.
“His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria, chose to nominate me as an Ambassador to serve concurrently in four countries in Central and South America,” Omokri wrote.
“Therefore, the processes involved for me, as an envoy to four different nations with four different Presidents, differ from those of others.”
Omokri’s remarks came in response to a social media user identified as Kachi, who appeared to compare the timeline of his appointment with that of another ambassadorial nominee, Professor Yakubu.
Reacting to the comparison, Omokri dismissed suggestions of rivalry, stressing that he does not measure his progress against that of others.
He maintained that the unique nature of his diplomatic assignment accounts for the additional procedures required before his appointment can be concluded.
