Social media critic and activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has reacted to a legal threat issued by the Presidency following the circulation of a controversial video allegedly featuring manipulated audio of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The video, which recently went viral across social media platforms, reportedly contained doctored audio purportedly linked to the President, sparking widespread reactions online.
Responding to the development, presidential media aide Bayo Onanuga warned that VDM could face legal consequences over the incident.
In a swift reaction, VDM stated that he was prepared to face any legal action taken against him, insisting that he would not shy away from the matter.
“I will not defend the allegations. If I respond, let God punish me. I want to face that law. I will even book a flight to come earlier than I planned. I want to see what you people can do,” he said.
The outspoken social commentator further maintained that citizens have the constitutional right to criticize the government in a democratic society.
“If you are pained that VDM is speaking, what option do I have other than to speak? It is my right to criticise the government when it is doing wrong. We are in a democracy,” he added.
The development has continued to generate intense reactions online, with supporters and critics debating the limits of free speech, misinformation, and accountability on social media.
