Departing Pep Guardiola has revealed that now is the “right time” to leave Manchester City after bringing an end to his historic 10-year spell at the club.
The 55-year-old managed his final game on Sunday as City suffered a 2-1 defeat at home to Aston Villa in the Premier League.
Speaking after the match, Guardiola said he intends to take a break from football to focus on resting and spending time with his family.
“It is the right time. I will not miss it for a while, that’s for sure,” Guardiola said.
“I feel deeply that the decision is the right decision for this club and the players. I thank the club for respecting it, they understood.”
During his remarkable decade at the Etihad Stadium, Guardiola transformed Manchester City into one of the most dominant sides in world football.
Under his leadership, City won six Premier League titles, one UEFA Champions League trophy, three FA Cups, and five League Cups, cementing Guardiola’s legacy as one of the greatest managers in football history.
