Former presidential aide to late ex-President Lauretta Onochie has thrown her weight behind former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as the most suitable candidate to fly the flag of the African Democratic Congress ahead of the party’s 2027 presidential primary.

Onochie stated that Atiku remains the strongest contender capable of leading the ADC to victory in the 2027 presidential election and effectively governing Nigeria if elected.

In a statement released ahead of the party’s presidential primary scheduled for Monday, Onochie urged party members to focus on electability, competence, and national appeal rather than sentiments.

According to her, politics is ultimately about capacity, preparedness, and the ability to secure power and deliver governance.

“As ADC prepares for its 2027 Presidential Primary, members must ask one question above all else: who gives the party the strongest opportunity to win Nigeria and govern successfully?” she said.

“For many party faithful, the answer is clear — Atiku Abubakar.”

Onochie described the former vice president as a politician with extensive experience, national acceptance, coalition-building strength, economic knowledge, and political resilience.

She added that if the ADC is serious about making history in 2027, the party must choose a candidate with the reach and political structure capable of converting ambition into electoral victory.

“Atiku brings to the table qualities very few politicians in Nigeria can legitimately claim,” she stated. “If ADC desires not simply to make history but to win history, then members must choose a candidate with national scale, tested endurance, and the capacity to convert aspiration into government.”

She further stressed that while the party primary is important, the broader objective should remain winning the general election and securing the presidency in 2027.

“The primary is the contest. The general election is the mission. The presidency is the destination,” Onochie declared.
