The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Edo State has deployed 1,542 personnel across the state to ensure adequate security and peaceful celebrations during the 2026 Eid-el-Kabir festivities.

The Edo State Commandant of the corps, Saidi Akintayo, disclosed this on Friday during a press briefing in Benin City.

Akintayo said the massive deployment was in line with the directive of the NSCDC Commandant-General, Ahmed Audi, aimed at guaranteeing a peaceful, secure, and hitch-free celebration across the three senatorial districts of the state.

According to him, the deployed officers were drawn from specialised units of the corps, including tactical teams, the armed squad, Counter-Terrorism Unit, Intelligence and Investigation Department, Agro Rangers, and Operations Department.

He explained that security personnel had been strategically stationed at Eid prayer grounds, markets, recreational centres, highways, motor parks, worship centres, and other vulnerable locations across the state.

“Our personnel have been strategically positioned at Eid prayer grounds, marketplaces, recreational centres, highways, motor parks, worship centres and other vulnerable locations to provide adequate security before, during and after the celebration,” he stated.

The commandant added that senior officers had also been directed to intensify surveillance, intelligence gathering, and routine patrols to forestall any breakdown of law and order during the festive period.

He warned criminal elements to steer clear of the state, stressing that security agencies remained fully prepared to respond decisively to any threat to public peace and safety.

Akintayo urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements or activities to relevant security agencies.

He further commended Monday Okpebholo for his continued support for security operations in the state, noting that the collaboration had significantly enhanced operational effectiveness.

The NSCDC boss also praised the synergy among security agencies in Edo State, describing inter-agency cooperation as vital to sustaining peace and stability.

He, however, called on Muslim faithful to embrace and reflect the values of sacrifice, peace, tolerance, unity, and love associated with the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
