The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly and All Progressives Congress House of Representatives aspirant for Agege Constituency, Mudashiru Obasa, has described Saturday’s party primaries as peaceful and a strong reflection of internal democracy within the ruling party.
Obasa made the remarks shortly after casting his vote at his ward in Agege at about 1 p.m., where supporters and party members turned out in large numbers to welcome him.
Speaking with journalists after the exercise, the Speaker commended the leadership of the APC for what he described as a smooth and transparent process.
“This is a fantastic exercise and a very good development. It represents a new direction for the party,” Obasa said.
“We appreciate the National Chairman of APC, his team, and party leaders in Lagos State for ensuring a credible process.”
While noting that reports from other wards were still being awaited, he expressed confidence that the exercise would remain peaceful across the state.
Obasa also reacted to the decision of some aspirants to step down during the primaries, describing the move as a positive development capable of strengthening party unity ahead of future elections.
“It is good for the unity of the party. APC has the character of coming together after every disagreement. This is a pre-election exercise, while the main election is coming in 2027,” he stated.
According to him, the most important aspect of the exercise was the opportunity given to party members and aspirants to freely express themselves through the democratic process.
“For me, the most important thing is that everyone has been allowed to express themselves in this exercise,” Obasa added
