Political Shockwave as Reps Member Dumps APC for NDC After Ticket Denial

0

A member of the House of Representatives, Joshua Chinedu Obika, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and defected to the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), barely two months after joining the ruling party from the Labour Party (LP).

Obika, who represents the AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), had officially joined the APC on March 11, 2026, in a move widely seen as a strategic political realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections.

However, sources within the party revealed that the lawmaker was denied an automatic return ticket for a second term bid under the APC platform, a development believed to have triggered his swift exit from the party.

The federal lawmaker is now expected to secure an automatic ticket from the NDC to contest for re-election into the House of Representatives.

His defection adds to the growing wave of political movements into the NDC following the recent entry of prominent opposition figures, including Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, who officially joined the party on Sunday.

Political observers say the latest developments signal an emerging realignment within Nigeria’s opposition landscape as preparations for the 2027 elections begin to intensify.
