Traditional rulers from the Ohuhu clan in Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State have called on politicians across the Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency to respect the existing power rotation arrangement, warning that any deviation could spark tension and possible violence.
The appeal was made on Friday through Eze Iheanyichukwu Nwokenna of Ekeoba Kingdom during a gathering of monarchs held at the palace of Eze Iheanyichukwu Abel Ezeigbo in Uhabiri, Umuchime na Amanso autonomous community, Ossah Ibeku.
Addressing stakeholders from Ibeku, Ikwuano, and Umuahia South, the traditional rulers urged political actors to uphold the zoning agreement established during the administration of former Governor Theodore Orji. They emphasized that honoring the arrangement would ensure stability and prevent unrest within the constituency.
Eze Nwokenna stressed that disrupting the power-sharing formula would be detrimental to peace in the region, urging politicians to allow the Ohuhu clan to complete its second tenure in the House of Representatives.
In a similar vein, Eze Nnamdi Ofoegbu cautioned against actions that could lead to violence, insisting that adherence to agreed political frameworks remains the surest path to harmony.
“We don’t want killings or political crises. Let agreements be respected for the sake of peace,” he said.
Also speaking, Eze Abel Ezeigbo commended the Ohuhu traditional rulers for choosing dialogue over conflict, reaffirming the commitment of monarchs in the constituency to safeguard lives and maintain unity.
“Ibeku and Ohuhu are one. Politics should not divide us or lead to bloodshed. Peace must prevail,” he added.
The monarchs collectively reiterated their resolve to prevent any form of political violence, warning that personal ambitions must not override the collective interest and safety of their communities.
