
The Kano State House of Assembly has confirmed Murtala Sule Garo as the new Deputy Governor of the state, following his successful screening during plenary.
The confirmation was announced during a session presided over by the Speaker, Jibril Isma’il Falgore.
Presenting the report of the ad hoc committee, the Deputy Speaker, Muhammad Bello, disclosed that Garo’s nomination followed the resignation of the former Deputy Governor, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo.
He explained that the screening process was conducted in accordance with Section 191(3)(c) of the 1999 Constitution, which empowers the Assembly to confirm a nominee in the event of a vacancy in the office of Deputy Governor.
According to the committee, Garo underwent a thorough screening exercise, during which he responded to questions bordering on his educational background, professional experience, grasp of governance, and policy direction for the state. His credentials were also carefully scrutinized and verified.
The committee noted that the nominee demonstrated a solid understanding of the responsibilities of the office and outlined strategies to support the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
Following the presentation, the House unanimously adopted the committee’s report, paving the way for Garo’s official confirmation as Deputy Governor of Kano State.
