The Osun State Directorate of the National Orientation Agency (NOA) has called on residents to adopt strict preventive health measures to curb the spread of COVID-19 and other infectious diseases.

This appeal was made in a press statement issued on Wednesday in Osogbo and signed by the agency’s Public Relations Officer, Bunmi Olaseinde.

According to the statement, the sensitisation campaign is being spearheaded by the State Director, Adebiyi Adefarasin Stephen, who urged residents to remain vigilant and proactive in safeguarding public health.

The agency noted that its advisory aligns with recent guidelines from the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC), which emphasise responsible health practices at both individual and community levels.

Among the recommended measures are regular handwashing with soap and clean water, the use of alcohol-based sanitisers, and strict adherence to respiratory hygiene, including covering the mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing.

Residents were also advised to avoid close contact with individuals showing symptoms such as fever, cough, or breathing difficulties. The statement further stressed the importance of proper ventilation in homes, workplaces, and public spaces as a critical step in limiting the spread of airborne infections.

The NOA encouraged individuals to seek prompt medical attention if they feel unwell and warned against self-medication. It also urged the public to rely only on verified information from recognised health authorities.

Calling for a collective effort, the agency appealed to community leaders, religious organisations, market associations, and youth groups to intensify awareness campaigns and promote compliance with public health guidelines.

“Prevention remains the most effective tool in combating infectious diseases,” the statement emphasised.

The renewed advisory follows a recent development in Cross River State, where authorities confirmed the isolation of a foreign national over a suspected case of COVID-19 at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital.

The State Commissioner for Health, Henry Egbe Ayuk, disclosed that the individual is currently receiving medical care and is under close monitoring. He added that the patient arrived in Nigeria via Lagos on March 17, 2026, before travelling to Cross River State en route to a factory in Akamkpa Local Government Area.

Health authorities say surveillance and response measures are ongoing as part of efforts to prevent any potential outbreak.
