The Edo State Government has awarded full educational scholarships to the three children of the late Brigadier General Oseni Omoh Braimah, who was killed in a Boko Haram attack in Borno State.
Brigadier Braimah, an indigene of Edo State, served as Commander of the 29 Task Force Brigade, a Joint Military Task Force base in Benisheik along the Maiduguri–Damaturu highway. He was among several military personnel killed on April 8, 2026, during an attack by suspected insurgents in Kaga Local Government Area.
The fallen officers were laid to rest on April 15, 2026, at the Maimalari Cantonment Cemetery in Maiduguri, in a ceremony attended by top government officials, senior military commanders, and other dignitaries who paid tribute to their sacrifice in ongoing counter-insurgency operations in Nigeria’s North-East.
Announcing the scholarship, Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo described the officer’s death as a painful loss and a profound sacrifice in service to the nation. He said the gesture was both a moral obligation and a reflection of responsible governance.
The beneficiaries include Farida Hussain-Braimah, an 18-year-old 100-level Software Engineering student at Nile University, Abuja; Amir Hussain-Braimah, 16, a Senior Secondary School 3 student at Olumawu Senior School, Abuja; and Yasmeen Hussain-Braimah, 12, a Junior Secondary School 2 pupil at Olumawu Junior Secondary School, Abuja.
Governor Okpebholo assured that the state would support the children throughout their academic journey, ensuring they have uninterrupted access to quality education and a stable future. He noted that the initiative aligns with his administration’s SHINE Agenda, which prioritizes human capital development, social welfare, and inclusive governance.
“No child of an Edo hero should be denied the opportunity to succeed. This is about responsibility, honour, and a deliberate investment in the future,” the governor stated.
He also called on other state governments and private sector stakeholders to adopt similar measures in supporting families of fallen military personnel.
In a related development, Borno State Governor Babagana Umara Zulum announced a donation of ₦50 million to the families of Brigadier Braimah and seven other officers and soldiers who died in the attack.
Governor Zulum said the financial assistance is intended to cushion the impact of the loss on the affected families, reaffirming the state’s support for those who have paid the ultimate price in the fight against insurgency.
