Stop Blaming APC for Your Crises — Basiru Fires at Opposition Parties

The National Secretary of Nigeria’s ruling party, All Progressives Congress (APC), Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru, has called on opposition parties to take responsibility for their internal challenges instead of accusing the APC of interference.

Basiru made this known during a media chat on Wednesday, where he addressed growing claims that the ruling party is behind the persistent crises within opposition parties.

Dismissing the allegations as unfounded, he stated that there is no credible evidence linking the APC to the internal disputes plaguing other political parties.

According to him, most of the conflicts arise from internal disagreements and a failure by party leaders to adhere to established procedures and legal frameworks.

“Have you seen any APC member challenging our internal processes?” Basiru queried. “If you say APC is the source of the problem, you must first examine whether those parties are following due process.”

He warned against undermining democratic institutions for political narratives, stressing that respect for the judiciary remains fundamental to Nigeria’s democracy.

“We cannot be casting aspersions on the institution of the judiciary or democracy just to serve political narratives,” he said.

Basiru further criticized opposition parties that proceed with conventions in defiance of court orders, describing such actions as a violation of the law and a threat to party discipline.

“Some parties go ahead with conventions despite court orders. Where is the end of political party discipline if people ignore court rulings and still conduct parallel leadership processes?” he added.

He reiterated that the APC remains committed to operating within the confines of the law and upholding democratic principles, urging political parties to strengthen internal governance and resolve disputes through lawful means.
