President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the killing of soldiers of the 29 Task Force Brigade under Operation HADIN KAI, following a coordinated terrorist attack on their camp in Benisheikh, Borno State.

The tragic incident, which occurred in the early hours of Thursday, April 9, 2026, was confirmed by the Defence Headquarters.

In a statement, the President extended his heartfelt condolences to the Nigerian Armed Forces and the families of the fallen soldiers, describing them as brave heroes who paid the ultimate price in defence of the nation.

President Tinubu commended the troops for their courage and resilience, noting that they fought gallantly to repel the attackers and prevent Boko Haram insurgents from overrunning the communities under their protection.

While mourning the loss, he urged the military leadership and personnel across all theatres of operation not to be discouraged, but to remain steadfast in their mission.

“From the reports I have received, our armed forces have been conducting sustained and intense land and air offensives against insurgents, neutralising several of their fighters and commanders. This counterattack is a sign of desperation,” the President said.

He also paid tribute to the fallen soldiers, led by Brigadier-General Oseni Omoh Braimah, assuring that their sacrifices would never be forgotten.

“The government will never forget their sacrifices. Because of the courage and dedication of our troops on the frontline, our resolve to defeat terrorism and all forms of violence across Nigeria is stronger than ever,” he added.

The President further assured that the Federal Government would continue to support the Armed Forces by providing necessary equipment and prioritising the welfare of personnel.

He called on Nigerians and the media to stand firmly behind the military in its ongoing fight against insurgency and banditry, urging citizens to refrain from actions or narratives that undermine the morale of troops.

“These soldiers are our heroes—unforgettable and irreplaceable,” he stated.

President Tinubu also extended his condolences to the government and people of Borno State, reaffirming the Federal Government’s commitment to working closely with the state to achieve lasting peace and total victory over terrorism.
