Underrated and Overlooked? Dremo Speaks Out on Industry Neglect and DMW Experience

0

Nigerian rapper Aboriomoh Femi Raymond, popularly known as Dremo, has expressed dissatisfaction over what he describes as a lack of recognition for his talent within the Nigerian music industry.

Speaking during a recent interview on Echo Room, the former Davido Music Worldwide (DMW) signee said he believes his contributions and capabilities have been largely underestimated by audiences and industry stakeholders.

“I feel like I am so underrated. People don’t know what I can do in the studio… Dem no rate me at all,” he said, while adding that he has embraced the “underdog” narrative surrounding his career.

Dremo also attributed the perceived lack of appreciation to his primary genre, rap, which he noted does not enjoy the same level of mainstream support in Nigeria as Afrobeats and pop music.

Reflecting on his time at DMW, the rapper disclosed that his expectations were not fully met during his stay with the label. He alleged that the label’s management structure largely prioritized its founder, Davido, with limited focus on the growth and promotion of other signed artists.

His remarks add to ongoing conversations about artist development and genre diversity within Nigeria’s evolving music industry.
