A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Ken Imansuagbon, has called on Nigerians to reject the re-election of President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general election.
Imansuagbon made the appeal over the weekend in Ewohimi, while receiving defectors from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) into the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The former Labour Party (LP) governorship aspirant in the 2024 Edo State election urged citizens to begin immediate mobilisation efforts to prevent what he described as a continuation of “failed leadership” under the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to him, the 2027 election presents a critical opportunity for Nigerians to reclaim their mandate, warning that allowing President Tinubu to secure a second term could further worsen the nation’s socio-economic and political conditions.
Imansuagbon also called on voters in Edo State to resist any attempt by Governor Monday Okpebholo to win a second term, stressing the need to uphold the will of the people over political intimidation.
“The APC’s claim of controlling a majority of governors does not translate to grassroots support or electoral victory,” he stated.
Describing the influx of new members into the ADC as a “tsunami,” Imansuagbon said it reflects growing public confidence in the party as a credible alternative ahead of 2027.
Also speaking at the event, former Edo State Governor and ADC National Legal Adviser, Oserhimen Osunbor, commended both new and existing members for their commitment to strengthening the party.
Osunbor dismissed suggestions that the APC’s dominance guarantees electoral success, noting that internal party dynamics and provisions of the Electoral Act could significantly influence outcomes. He added that claims of delivering millions of votes for the President in Edo State were unrealistic, emphasizing that election results ultimately rest with the electorate.
The defectors, led by former PDP chieftain Clifford Eineh, were described as part of a broader political realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Other notable figures present at the event included Herberta Okonofua, Akhakon Anenih, Braimoh Okonofua, Sylvester Ewanehi, and the Edo State Chairman of ADC, Kennedy Odion.
