A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Daboikiabo Warmate, has reaffirmed that the party will not support the re-election bid of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Warmate made this known on Friday during an interview on Trust TV, monitored by DAILY POST, where he clarified the party’s stance amid ongoing political discussions.
He dismissed claims suggesting that the PDP might back the incumbent president, describing such views as personal opinions that do not reflect the party’s official position.
According to him, the PDP remains committed to fielding its own presidential candidate, in line with its internal zoning arrangement.
“The position to support President Tinubu is purely a personal one and does not represent the party’s stance,” Warmate stated. “As a party, we are focused on presenting a credible candidate.”
He further explained that the PDP has zoned its presidential ticket to the southern region, a decision influenced by internal dynamics and the need to address issues that previously led to divisions within the party.
Warmate also referenced comments by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, noting that such views should be regarded as individual opinions rather than the collective decision of the PDP.
Reiterating the party’s direction, he emphasized that the PDP’s priority is to consolidate its structure and present a strong candidate capable of competing effectively in the 2027 presidential election.
