The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has approved a comprehensive schedule for its nationwide congresses, commencing with polling unit and ward congresses on April 7.
The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, disclosed this on Wednesday while briefing journalists after the NEC meeting held in Abuja. He described the meeting as “short, simple, and productive,” with full attendance by all statutory members.
Abdullahi revealed that the NEC also endorsed key reports submitted to the National Working Committee (NWC), including those from the Policy and Manifesto Committee and the Constitutional Review Committee. These reports, he said, will be presented at the party’s National Convention scheduled for April 14 in Abuja, where they are expected to shape the party’s future policy direction and constitutional framework.
According to the timetable, local government congresses will take place on April 9, followed by state congresses on April 11, leading up to the national convention. Abdullahi noted that guidelines for the congresses have already been released, and nomination forms distributed nationwide to ensure broad participation.
He assured party members aspiring for positions that the process would be transparent, inclusive, and accessible to all qualified individuals. He also confirmed that representatives of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) were present at the NEC meeting, providing oversight and reinforcing the credibility of proceedings.
Clarifying the purpose of the upcoming convention, Abdullahi stated that it would not be elective. Instead, it is intended to ratify decisions previously taken by the NEC and NWC, while elections for party officers will be conducted during the various congresses at polling unit, ward, local government, and state levels.
He further disclosed that a convention committee has been constituted, with additional details to be announced by the party’s National Organising Secretary.
In his opening remarks, the ADC National Chairman, David Mark, underscored the importance of unity, discipline, and collective leadership within the party. He described the meeting as both an honour and a responsibility, commending members for their commitment to strengthening the ADC.
Mark called on party stakeholders to set aside personal interests and focus on internal cohesion and democratic values. He also stressed the need for deeper grassroots engagement to expand the party’s national appeal across regions, religions, and generations.
“Our task is clear: to reposition the ADC as a formidable platform for national renewal and inclusive governance,” he said, while also applauding state chairmen for embracing dialogue in resolving internal challenges.
