“We Will Avenge Our Martyrs” — Iran’s New Supreme Leader Delivers Emotional First Address

Iran’s new Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, has issued his first public statement, urging national unity while acknowledging the pain and losses suffered during the country’s recent conflict.

In an address read on state television, Khamenei expressed condolences to families who lost loved ones in the war and assured citizens that the government would compensate those affected by the destruction.

“We have to protect this unity and this is only possible when we are together and find common ground,” the statement said.

Khamenei also revealed that the violence had personally affected his family. He disclosed that his father — the former Supreme Leader — along with other close relatives, were killed in the strikes.

“I lost my father, I lost my wife. My sister lost her child as well as her husband who has been martyred,” he said.

He added that faith and patience were crucial for enduring such tragedies, noting that the suffering of his family mirrored that of many Iranians who lost loved ones during the conflict.

“But what makes it easier for us to endure all these plights is to trust in the grace of God and to know that patience will resolve it,” he said.

Khamenei praised citizens from across the country who “stood against the enemy,” describing their resilience as a source of national strength.

However, he also warned that Iran would not ignore the deaths of those it considers martyrs, promising that their sacrifice would not go unanswered.

“I assure everyone that we will not ignore the fact that we are going to avenge our martyrs,” he said, stressing that the issue goes beyond the killing of the country’s former supreme leader.

“It is not only about him. It is about every single countryman who has been killed during the recent war.”

The statement marks the first official message from Khamenei since assuming the role of Iran’s top authority, setting a tone that combines mourning, calls for unity, and a pledge to respond to the recent attacks.
