ASUU-UNILAG Declares Indefinite Strike

0

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Lagos (UNILAG) chapter, has declared an indefinite strike over what it described as “amputated” salaries paid to its members for January and February 2026.

The decision was reached at an emergency congress of the union held on Tuesday.

In a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting, the union expressed strong dissatisfaction with the salary payments processed by the university management, stating that the amounts received by lecturers were significantly reduced.

The communiqué was jointly signed by the chapter’s Chairperson, Idou Kehinde, and Secretary, Adesina Arikawe.

According to the union, the industrial action will commence on Wednesday and will continue indefinitely until the university management addresses its grievances and meets its demands.

ASUU insisted that the strike became necessary after efforts to resolve the issue with the university authorities failed to yield results.

Further details are expected as the situation develops.
