A governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State, Olajide Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, has promised to prioritise the welfare of residents if elected governor in the 2027 elections.
Adediran made the pledge on Saturday while speaking with journalists on the sidelines of the 8th Annual Ramadan Lecture held in Ikeja.
According to him, the foremost responsibility of any government is to improve the quality of life of its citizens. He stated that his administration, if given the mandate in 2027, would implement policies aimed at raising the living standards of Lagos residents.
The APC chieftain emphasised that government should focus on creating a conducive environment that stimulates economic growth rather than engaging directly in business activities.
He noted that addressing the current economic challenges facing residents would require strategic investments in key sectors such as infrastructure, education, healthcare and other essential services.
Adediran also reflected on the resilience of members of the Lagos4Lagos Movement, stating that the group has remained united for nearly a decade despite the setbacks experienced during the 2023 general elections.
“We didn’t just start today. After the 2023 elections, many expected that I would ask our supporters to disperse because of what happened, but we see that experience as a test of faith. I never asked anyone to go home, and we continue to hold our meetings at Liberty House,” he said.
He further highlighted that no individual from the Badagry Division has ever governed Lagos State, expressing optimism that the aspiration of people from the area could eventually become a reality.
Meanwhile, the guest lecturer at the event, Abdulhakeem Muhammadu Awwal, who spoke on the topic “Economic Empowerment and Poverty Alleviation: The Islamic Perspective,” called for a more structured system for managing Zakat.
Awwal urged authorities to establish committees comprising technocrats to oversee the transparent and efficient distribution of Zakat funds. He explained that such a system would ensure that the funds are effectively channelled into critical areas such as entrepreneurship, education, healthcare and support for vulnerable members of society.
