PENGASSAN Members Protest at Shell Nigeria Over Alleged CBA Breach, Disrupt Broad Street Traffic

0

LAGOS — Operations along Broad Street in Lagos were temporarily disrupted on Tuesday morning as workers of Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company Limited (SNEPCo) staged a protest over issues related to the implementation of a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).

The demonstration was organised by the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN), the union representing senior staff in the oil and gas sector.

According to a source within PENGASSAN, the protest was triggered by unresolved concerns surrounding the enforcement of provisions contained in the CBA between the union and the company. The source indicated that several aspects of the agreement remain outstanding, prompting workers to demand immediate attention and compliance.

Protesters gathered around the Shell premises along Broad Street in the early hours of the day, restricting full access to the facility. The action led to traffic congestion in the busy commercial district, as motorists and pedestrians slowed down to observe the demonstration.

As of press time, officials of Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company Limited had yet to issue a formal response regarding the protest and the allegations raised by the union.
