Former Lagos State governorship candidate of the Labour Party, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, has dismissed criticisms surrounding the ongoing online registration drive of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing attempts to ridicule the process as misplaced.
In a statement shared via his social media platform X, Rhodes-Vivour argued that critics were trivialising what he described as a significant surge in grassroots participation. According to him, the increasing number of Nigerians registering with the opposition party has unsettled detractors.
He clarified that the digital registration process represents only the initial phase of membership enrollment, stressing that formal confirmation occurs at the ward level.
“The real confirmation happens at the ward level. That’s how structure works. That’s how credibility is built,” he stated.
Rhodes-Vivour maintained that ward-level validation is central to building a credible political structure, adding that the process reinforces accountability within party ranks.
He further suggested that it would attract public attention if prominent political figures were to validate their membership in person at their respective wards.
While critics continue to question the significance of the online drive, Rhodes-Vivour urged supporters to remain focused on expanding the party’s base, insisting that growth at the grassroots level remains the ultimate measure of political strength.
