The Kano State Government has unveiled plans to construct toll gates on key roads leading into the state metropolis, a move aimed at enhancing security monitoring and strengthening the state’s socio-economic structure.

The Commissioner for Housing Development, Ibrahim Adamu, announced the initiative during the official handover of seven project sites to contractors. According to him, the project forms part of the government’s broader strategy to reinforce the state’s security architecture by improving oversight of vehicular movement into Kano.

In a statement issued by the Ministry’s Director of Public Enlightenment, Adamu Abdullahi, the commissioner emphasized the administration’s commitment to ensuring the timely execution of the project. He urged contractors to adhere strictly to the agreed timeline and maintain high standards of quality.

The handover ceremonies were conducted across the seven designated locations and witnessed by the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Marwan Ahmed, and the Commissioner for Public Procurement and Monitoring, Dr. Nura Ma’aji.

A major highlight of the exercise was the formal signing of handover documents between the contractors, representatives of the Ministry of Housing Development, and the project consultant, marking the official commencement of work.

The proposed toll gates will be situated along Daura Road, Katsina Road, Gwarzo Road, Zaria Road, Maiduguri Road, Hadejia Road, and Sa’adatu Rimi Road. The government says the initiative is expected to improve traffic regulation, enhance security surveillance, and contribute to revenue generation for sustainable development in the state.
