Osogbo, Nigeria — The Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, has approved a temporary reduction in official working hours for public servants in observance of the Ramadan and Lent fasting periods.
The directive, announced on Thursday in Osogbo through a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, is aimed at supporting workers who are participating in the religious fasts.
According to the statement, the adjusted timetable will take effect from Thursday, February 19, 2026, and remain in force throughout the fasting season.
Details of the new arrangement were contained in a circular issued by the Office of the Head of Service and signed by Elder Ayanleye Aina. The circular, titled “Closure of Work During Ramadan and Lent Fasting Periods,” outlined revised closing hours for government offices across the state.
Under the new schedule, public servants are to close work at 2:00 p.m. from Mondays to Thursdays and at 1:00 p.m. on Fridays during the fasting period.
The circular described the adjustment as part of the state government’s welfare measures for its workforce, noting that the decision was intended to provide employees with adequate time for prayers and other spiritual activities.
However, the directive excludes workers engaged in essential services, particularly medical personnel, due to the critical nature of their duties.
Political office holders, accounting officers in ministries, departments and agencies, heads of non-ministerial agencies, and local government authorities have been directed to ensure full compliance and proper communication of the directive to all staff members.
