Protesters on Tuesday returned to the National Assembly Complex in Abuja for the second consecutive day, escalating pressure on lawmakers to pass legislation mandating the real-time transmission of election results from polling units to the Independent National Electoral Commission’s IREV portal.
The demonstrators gathered at the main entrance of the complex, chanting solidarity songs and demanding swift legislative action. “We no go gree… Akpabio, pass the bill,” they chorused, directing their appeal to Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
Calls for electoral transparency dominated the protest, with participants insisting that “Our vote must count.” Placards displayed at the scene carried messages such as “Don’t alter the bill, pass it,” and “Rigging election is a coup,” reflecting growing public frustration over concerns about the integrity of Nigeria’s electoral process.
The protesters urged the leadership of the National Assembly to prioritise the bill, arguing that compulsory real-time transmission of results to INEC’s Result Viewing (IREV) portal would enhance transparency, reduce manipulation, and restore public confidence in the country’s elections.
Security personnel were present at the complex as the demonstration continued peacefully.
