“I Am Contesting as Number One” — Peter Obi Declares 2027 Presidential Ambition in ADC

Abuja, Nigeria – Former Labour Party presidential candidate and leading figure in the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Peter Obi, has openly indicated his intention to seek the party’s presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Obi disclosed his ambition while addressing supporters during a campaign event for ADC candidates in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council elections. The rally was held at the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC).

Speaking to party members and residents, Obi made it clear that he is aiming for the top position within the party’s political structure and would not accept a secondary role in its long-term plans.

He described the upcoming AMAC election as a critical part of his broader political journey and urged supporters to rally behind the ADC candidate, stressing that victory at the grassroots level would strengthen his national ambition.

According to Obi, his participation in the forthcoming elections is as a principal contender, not a supporting figure.

“This coming election, support us in AMAC; it will help me. Your support in AMAC is critical to our journey. I am involved and contesting the coming election as number one. When I come back, you will see. I assure you,” Obi said.

Meanwhile, Obi’s supporters, particularly members of the Obidient Movement, have intensified calls on the ADC leadership to adopt him as the party’s sole presidential standard-bearer for 2027.

However, the ADC currently hosts other high-profile politicians with presidential ambitions, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, setting the stage for a competitive internal contest as the election season approaches.
